AR-Accelerated ReaderAccelerated Reader is a program used to track student reading comprehension. After students read a book, they are able to take an AR quiz on that book. The quiz will ask students questions about the book they read.
Each student has an AR goal set for them to reach for each quarter. Students are able to track their progress toward their goal on their AR account, and on our classroom "Percentage of AR goal met" chart. Students earn a certain amount of points for each book they read, and quiz they passed. If a book does not have an AR quiz, I will hold a conference with that student, and ask them questions about the book. I will then add or take away points from their AR goal, so they get credit towards their AR goal for the book they read. |
AR Punch Cards |
Each student will receive an AR punch card at the beginning of the year. For each 100% earned on an AR quiz, students will get a punch on their punch card. In order to earn a punch, the 100% must have been earned reading a "Just Right" book. Students who read larger books such as Harry Potter, have the option of earning two punches for the one larger book. Once the punch card is full students may choose a small reward. Students will then receive a new punch card, and start over.

AR Goal Celebrations |
Students who meet their AR goal each quarter will take part in a school or classroom celebration. This is to recognize their hard work and effort in reading that quarter. These students are often recognized at our Growth Mindset Assemblies as well.
